We meet every Sunday morning during the 10:00 am service from September to June. We welcome children in grades JK – 6 to join us downstairs for the lessons. Parents and Grandparents are always invited to come too! Some children feel more comfortable having an adult they know with them until they get to know the teachers and other children. Children of all ages participate in the same class. There are lots of benefits to this type of model.
Children have the opportunity to learn from and support each other.
We create opportunities for children to participate according to their own interests and abilities.
This type of programming serves as the basis for an inclusive environment.
Children at St. Columba begin the service in church with their family, and then children process out as a group to the Sunday School room. We begin our sessions each week with music. Next we read or tell a bible story, and then we participate in a variety of activities related to the lesson. Some weeks we do a craft. Other weeks we play games, solve puzzles, do drama or make snacks. On special occasions we might watch a movie.
On the last Sunday of each month we participate in All Ages Services. On these special Sundays we invite the children to take part in the service by reading the bible lessons, acting as greeters, collecting the offering, as well as other jobs. We sing music that is familiar to the children and the homily is one that is geared to all of God’s children, young and old. The congregation at St. Columba is very welcoming of children. This is a wonderful place to come together as a family and learn about God’s love!
